So happy to offer “holy” scarves to the homeless!

Scarves

The first two scarves have arrived!

“This is the fasting that I wish: Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the oppressed and the homeless; Clothing the naked when you see them.” (Is 58:6-7)

I am so happy that the first donation of scarves has arrived! I recently started a ministry to the homeless called “Warming the Homeless with LOVE, Scarves, and Sacramentals.” I will be attaching a blessed Miraculous Medal and a blessed St. Benedict Medal (which has a full exorcism blessing on it) to each scarf.

I am praying that not only will the scarves help to keep the homeless warm this winter, but will also keep them protected, and even inspired due to the attached holy sacramentals. I plan to have the scarves (hats, and gloves) blessed ahead of time with holy water too. And when possible, blessed by a priest.

Here is the blog post in which I told about a homeless man named Andrew, the new ministry, and how one can donate new or gently used (and freshly washed) scarves, hats, or gloves that I will give out to the homeless.

You can share in this “Works of Mercy” ministry by praying about helping, praying for the ministry, and especially for the homeless. And, hopefully, by sending your donations of new or very gently used (and clean) scarves, hats, and gloves to me at: PO Box 773, New Milford, CT 06776.

ANOTHER WAY to join in this “Work of Mercy” is to get together in your own area with people who would like to crochet or knit scarves for the homeless. Imagine the beautiful fellowship that can unfold as you chat and pray, and knit or crochet away! I recommend that you start with a prayer when you gather together. Or, purchase or collect donations of scarves, gloves, and hats (or from your own closet) and attach blessed Miraculous Medals on them (and hopefully a blessed St. Benedict medal too). You can get them at my website or elsewhere. My medals have FULL blessings upon them. If you decide to do this, please let me know in the comments section, or you may email me: DMCOBoyle@aol.com.

Thank you very much in advance. God bless you!

PS Look what just arrived–a big box filled with homemade scarves!! I will get busy sewing the blessed medals onto these beautiful hand-made scarves.

Gorgeous homemade scarves donated to the ministry!

Please pray for me as I will be going out in a couple of days into a couple of big cities to gift these warm scarves to the needy.

  1. Hi Donna,

This is the first time I have been on you website
Donna-Marie, and it is so unbelievable that I see these scarves on this page. About 10 years ago my mom and daughter were making scarves together to try to spell them to make some extra money for college. However, my daughter who was going to college in Chicago, would see so many homeless people on the streets in the winter that she started giving them away to the homeless people she would run into. There was no shortage of homeless men and women either! My daughter had organized other things for the homeless. My mom had died in 2008 and she also knitted me
and her grandchildren scarves. I’m getting to the point now. I see women in my church knitting in the narthex, some for people they know, some for soldiers during Christmas. I said to them, oh gee, I did so little knitted my mom did I crochet. But you scarves got me to thinking of doing it for the homeless also. My daughter after giving some of them away, one day saw a man proudly smiling and wearing one of the colorful scarves. My mom
was so happy that she gave them away. My mom gave all kinds of things away, especially her love.
I thought maybe I might join this group for fellowship and start knitting scarves for the homeless. Maybe I was sent to this site for a reason. I have seen your Catholic Mom’s Cafe and I wish I could have your mild temperament. My mom was so kind and never had a harsh word to say either! Thank you for knitting scarves for the homeless. I will pray about this also. Thank you so much for all you do for the poor and homeless!

    • Dear Mary, Thank you so much for sharing here. I am so glad that you felt the prod to visit my website and then you saw the scarves and the ministry to the homeless. I hope that perhaps you might join together with the women who are knitting and crocheting. It will be wonderful fellowship I am sure! As well, you will be doing a very worthwhile Work of Mercy. How wonderful that you have dear memories of your Mom making scarves and giving love to others and that your daughter has also given away scarves to the homeless.

Please keep me in your prayers. Also, I encourage you to subscribe to my email newsletter if you haven’t already. Maybe you are already subscribed and that is the way you made your way to my website. I had just written about the homeless ministry in the latest newsletter. If you are not yet subscribed, simply go to my website: http://www.donnacooperoboyle.com and put in your email address in the top right hand column at the subscribe spot(s).

      God bless you, Mary!

  5. Dear Donna
I am SO happy that I have found your site as I knitted approximately 30 scarves for the homeless last winter, but that particular website is now closed. All of this was meant to be! I will be sending you a box full of scarves. Thank you and many blessings.

    • Hi Linda, (on a ranch in VERY rural Montana!) thank you for writing! How wonderful that you have knitted these scarves. I am so grateful that you will be sending scarves for the homeless and needy. May God reward you for lovingly knitting them for those who need then to stay warm. Please keep the ministry in your prayers. Thank you again for your love and care. God bless you! Donna-Marie (who lives way out in the woods of rural Connecticut with the bears and deer and who has never been to Montana.)

  6. Oh, thank you so much. You and the ministry are definitely in my prayers. Some time I will tell you the story of how God guided me to find your website. In the meantime, the scarves are washed, boxed and will be mailed tomorrow. I will be helping a friend work in the rectory of our teeny tiny church so will be able to post the box. Connecticut looks so beautiful. Enjoy the gorgeous fall.
    Blessings.
    Linda

    • Dear Linda, I am just finding your comment. Life has been so busy as of late. You are very kind to send out the scarves to me. Pray along with me please that they will go to just the right people who are seeking warmth and comfort. May God reward you!

    • Oh my goodness! The scarves just arrived and they are simply GORGEOUS! I see the love that went into making them, Linda. So many needy people will be blessed by the warmth of these scarves. May God reward you for making them and for thinking of those needy ones in their time of need. Let us together pray for them! Please also pray that our dear Lord will direct me to those who will receive them. Thank you and God bless you!

      • I am so happy that these scarves will help the needy and provide love and warmth for them. I am busy knitting more and pray that you will definitely be directed to those who are in need. Thank you Donna-Marie for helping to care for these precious people.
Many Blessings and prayers to you and your ministry.
        Linda

        • Dear Linda, I am so glad that you found my comment. The scarves are extremely beautiful and I am praying for you that God will reward you in great abundance for your generosity and also that God will warm so many needy people with these scarves made with love. I will attach blessed medals to them and head out in the near future to gift them to people. Some will go to the Missionaries of Charity Sisters (Mother Teresa’s Order) to give out to the needy in their areas. Thank you very much for praying for the ministry, Linda! God bless you! Donna-Marie xo
